Mathematics is explored naturally through counting, sorting, building, measuring, cooking, loose parts play and everyday routines that make learning meaningful and enjoyable. Children are encouraged to notice patterns, compare quantities, solve problems and explore shape, space and measure through play, investigation and real-life experiences
Personal, Emotional, Social Development the EYFS
Supporting children to develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive relationships whilst understanding and managing their emotions. Children learn to understand social rules, boundaries and expectations, creating the foundations for emotional resilience, self-regulation and lifelong learning.

Supporting children to develop strength, coordination, balance, gross motor skills, fine motor control and hand-eye coordination whilst promoting healthy lifestyles and physical wellbeing

Developing children's listening, attention, understanding and spoken vocabulary to help them communicate confidently with others and express their needs, thoughts, feelings, likes and dislikes

Personal, social and emotional development sits at the heart of our curriculum, providing the foundations upon which all other learning can grow.
We place a strong emphasis on developing independence, resilience, communication skills and positive relationships, supporting children to become confident learners who are willing to explore, ask questions, solve problems and embrace new experiences.
Through play-based learning, meaningful interactions and carefully planned experiences, children are encouraged to develop at their own pace whilst feeling supported, included and celebrated for who they are as individuals. Inclusion is embedded throughout our curriculum and wider nursery community. Whether a child has identified additional needs or simply requires a little extra reassurance, encouragement or guidance, we adapt our environments and approaches to ensure every child feels able to participate, succeed and thrive.
We celebrate individuality and value the different cultures, backgrounds and experiences that make our nursery community unique. We are also proud to work alongside a registered Clinical Psychologist with many years' experience in children's services, whose expertise and guidance help us to provide additional support and tailored strategies to children, staff and our families where needed.
The Eyfs 7 areas of Learning
The Early Years Foundation Stage identifies seven areas of learning and development which form the framework of our curriculum. At Dots & Tots these are not taught in isolation, but are carefully woven into play, exploration, real-life experiences and children's individual interests. We are a child-led setting with inclusion for all at the heart of everything we do.

Language and Communication- how we achieve this
Through stories, songs, conversations, role play and meaningful interactions, children are encouraged to express themselves, share ideas and develop a rich and varied vocabulary. Through open-ended, child-led play, children are given the time and space to explore, experiment with and test sounds, words and language in meaningful ways. Supported by skilled and responsive adults, children develop confidence in communicating, build their understanding of language and become enthusiastic and capable communicators
Physical Development the EYFS
Supporting children to develop strength, coordination, balance, gross motor skills, fine motor control and hand-eye coordination whilst promoting healthy lifestyles and physical wellbeing
Physical Development-how we achieve this
Children climb, balance, dig, pour, build and explore through purposeful play, outdoor experiences and child-led exploration that strengthen gross and fine motor skills. Activities such as threading, cutting, scooping, whisking, mark making and using tools help to develop hand-eye coordination, dexterity and control. Children also learn about healthy lifestyles and are encouraged to help prepare nutritious snacks and meals, promoting positive relationships with food and developing healthy eating habits for life

Children build confidence and self-esteem through nurturing relationships, opportunities for independence and a strong focus on emotional wellbeing and belonging. Each child has a dedicated key worker who works closely with families to support their development, whilst our family-feel setting ensures every member of staff knows and supports every child within our nursery community

Literacy - The EYFS
Supporting children to develop a lifelong love of books, stories and language whilst laying the foundations for communication, language comprehension and future reading and writing skills

Through stories, rhymes, songs and open-ended opportunities for rich conversations, children develop their understanding of language, speech sounds, vocabulary and the structure of words. Storytelling, mark making and access to high-quality, enriching books encourage imagination, creativity and a lifelong love of literacy
Supporting children to make sense of their communities, environments and the wider physical world through exploration and discovery. As children's experiences broaden, so does their understanding of people, places and the world around them. Through first-hand experiences, community involvement, stories and meaningful interactions, children begin to appreciate our culturally, socially, technologically and ecologically diverse world

Understanding the World Around Us- how we achieve this
Children investigate nature, celebrate different cultures and traditions, care for living things and explore their world through first-hand experiences and meaningful conversations. Visits within the local community, interactions with visitors and professionals, and access to a rich range of stories, non-fiction texts and experiences help children to develop curiosity, respect and a sense of belonging within the wider world.Using real-life equipment and experiencing the natural environment around them, children learn practical life skills such as growing produce, caring for animals and building connections within their wider community
Expressive Arts and Design
Encouraging creativity, imagination and self-expression through art, music, movement, role play and design. Regular opportunities to engage with the arts and explore a wide range of media, materials and experiences support children's creativity, artistic and cultural awareness, communication skills and ability to express themselves in meaningful and individual ways

Children are provided with open-ended resources and opportunities to create, perform, explore music, engage in imaginative play and express themselves in their own unique ways. Through repeated experiences and freedom to explore materials without expectation or outcome, children develop confidence, curiosity and an appreciation for creativity in all its forms
